What Would You Do?

The Little Things That Make A Difference

At church on Sunday, when closing the morning service, my pastor told a tragic story that I wanted to share with you. There was a girl named Ashley (9 years old), who was quite a handful especially at church. A church member went up to the pastor of the church saying that she didn't know how to relate to Ashley because of her attitude and over activeness. The pastor told her to be patient because he knew she wasn't saved. Two weeks later, Ashley rejoiced because she became a Christian, and three days after she was brutally murdered. The day of Ashley's death, her parents went grocery shopping and left their children at home. Watching the parents leave the driveway, a derange man decided to go on the property and hurt the kids. He grabbed a pitch fork in the barn and headed up to Ashley's brothers room. He stabbed Ashley's brother and killed him, next the deranged man was headed to Ashley's sisters room. Ashley on the other end of the house heard all this screaming, she was near a window and was half way through (going to escape) when she realized that she needed to save her sisters lives. She came back in the house and jumped on the man, and told her sisters to run. Ashley saved her sisters lives that day, but wasn't able to save herself. The man stabbed Ashley 85 times, and left her dead.

After hearing this story, I was burdened and mad about the dreadful tragedy that Ashley and her family faced. I thought that wasn't fair, how could something like that happen to a 9 year old? Also I thought to myself what would I do? Would I go and save my sisters or would I run and save myself? It makes you think. When there is a situation that faces death, would I sacrifice myself so that another could live? I think we would all like to say we would, but would we seriously do it? Would we risk our life for that popular girl at school who you don't like or your roommate who annoys you?

A person who sacrificed His life for us was Jesus Christ. He died for me, a sinner, who doesn't even deserve to live, and yet He sacrificed Himself so that I could go to heaven and live for eternity. We need to live our days here on earth and be a testimony for the unbelievers, witness to them, and share the joy of the Lord.

So my dear friends, I ask again what would you do?
